Parade Grand Marshal: John Rothgerber

Parker’s Flowers has been a Palmyra landmark since it was established in 1921 by Edwin and Ruth Parker. John Rothgerber purchased the business in 2000 and has been dedicated to keeping the spirit and tradition of Parker’s Flowers alive, which has always included supporting the community.

Often beyond the view of the public eye, John has helped numerous local churches, school, organizations, and community fundraisers, be it in the form of monetary donations, floral arrangements, gift baskets, or donating the Parker’s van to help out with volunteer efforts. He is always willing to help the community and surrounding towns with his humble and kind demeanor.

John was a member of the Palmyra Improvement Association, volunteering at events, especially the ones to beautify the town with the River Clean-ups, and weeding, planting and watering of the garden beds downtown. On their own time and dime he and his husband, Michael, on multiple occasions, have given the garden beds near the railroad tracks a makeover, replacing the weeds with beautiful flowers. Loving flowers and plants, John helped represent Palmyra in the Philadelphia Flower Show in 2023, providing his expertise, Parker’s back room, and flowers for the award-winning exhibit.

Of all of John’s contribution to Palmyra, he is most proud of his and Michael’s time being a volunteer and board member for Palmyra High School Foundation for Educational Excellence (PHSFEE). Since their inception, PHSFEE has raised about $133,000 for the students. John believes that education is incredibly important and it’s how people succeed in life and that “the kids need a good foundation.” Click here to learn more about PHSFEE.

John is an example of a transplant turned proud and dedicated Palmyra resident and business owner and we are fortunate to have him!
